From an early age, music and teaching were an integral part of Jory’s life. Since graduating from the University of Calgary in 2002 with a Bachelor of Music, she has been able to fulfill her goal of having a full-time career as a private music teacher. With a studio of more than 40 students, she is able to offer her experience and passion about music to students with a variety of backgrounds and interests.
In addition to her degree, Jory holds an ARCT Diploma in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory in Music and holds the designation R.M.T. (Registered Music Teacher) from the Alberta Registered Music Teacher’s Association (ARMTA). For her senior levels in piano she studied with Allen Reiser and Vladimir Levtov.
For most of her studies, Jory’s main musical interests have been focused on the traditional Western Classical tradition, including a full range of repertoire from Renaissance to Twentieth-Century forms. Additionally, she was involved with the World Music Ensemble at the University of Calgary and has performed throughout Calgary, Edmonton, and even Bali, Indonesia on non-Western instruments, including Gender Wayang and Persian Santur. She spent a month in Bali in 2004 continuing her studies in traditional Balinese music, as well as African and Middle Eastern Percussion.
Currently, Jory is active within the musical community. As a member of the Executive of ARMTA, she has been involved with organizing an annual honours recital and working on the website committee. Additionally, she is a member of the Alberta Piano Teacher’s Association where she is webmaster for the Calgary APTA Festival site. She is also the Special Projects Coordinator for the Calgary RCM Alumni Association.
